A Responsive District 3 Commissioner can Protect and Improve our Neighborhoods
An unresponsive one will not! (click here for a graphic on this topic )
District 3 has had an unresponsive Commissioner for the last 3 ½ years. Several ForsythCRG.org committee members were major Harrell supporters in 2006: campaign contributions, “introduce the candidate” phone callers, road waves, parades, full page newspaper ads, etc.
The first 18 months or so after taking office, we often calmed irate homeowners whose calls & emails to Jim Harrell were ignored. We told folks he was a “newbie” (quoting him) and please give him a chance to learn.
But, the incumbent continued to ignore the homeowner as a few examples from 2007-2009 show:
- ZA 3078 Homeowners asked that a developer change plans to follow county development rules. but Mr Harrell approved the developer's drawings as is.
- SP 09003 200 neighbors/4 neighborhoods asked him to deny a house of worship due to narrow two lane roads, disruption to their residential area, and inadequate sewage capacity. Their stated position that the site would also be wrong for all faiths: Muslim, Baptist, Catholic, Jewish, Buddhist, etc.
- ZA 3438 A neighborhood asked denial of a close-by spot zoning for commercial but he approved it in a close 3-2 vote.
- Occupancy limits on rented trailers and homes Two neighborhoods received no results when they asked him for county set occupancy limits on rented trailers and homes similar to the City law.
- Right of way purchase plans Three other neighborhoods asked him to stop ROW purchase plans for an unnecessary 4 lane road widening without success.
- ZA 3411 1,200 homeowners from 70 neighborhoods emailed him to join with homeowner oriented Laughinghouse & Boff to deny the Venable Hall re-zoning which violated the Land Use Plan, etc. He led the approval and voted YES. See the incredulous and factual story: www.keepcastleberryresidential.org
- Imperviousness allowance for developments in major water sheds Environmental & homeowner groups asked the commissioners to adopt the State’s EPD maximum allowance of 24% imperviousness of all developments in major water sheds. The request was ignored, while at the same time the incumbent waived a 150 foot wide required stream buffer and granted a developer the ability to put a concrete tunnel over the 1,000 foot long stream to allow a higher density development.
Now, in 2010 the incumbent seems focused on trying to purchase Lanier Golf Course in District 5, hoping District 3 residents have poor memories.
Todd Levent believes that existing homeowners always deserve the first consideration. He commits to:
- First, Always listen to the homeowner, we are the backbone of the county!!
- Continue/expand communications with the homeowners via HOA’s and other homeowner groups. Formalize his existing “listening system” where he hears from each group every 1 or 2 months (and more when needed!)
- Protect the residential environment of the existing homeowners who are the vast majority in Forsyth County and the reason our county is so good. He will reject all attempts of spot zoning.
- Commit to put new Commercial & Business on the 1,000’s of acres on roads like Ronald Reagan, McFarland Parkway, Freedom Parkway, etc. where infrastructure already exists, and away from residential sub-divisions.
See Todd's Position on Issues here.
On August 10, you can vote for Trust & Responsiveness by checking Todd Levent on the ballot. Todd’s remodeling/custom home building business successfully utilizes word of mouth “marketing”.
How? - - he always delivers on his promises.
